I received this book for free from YA Bound Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
So part two of this novel took a dark turn, and I love it!
Tessa and Tristan still share some very cute moments, but I am learning more about what Tessa has endured over the past eight years while she has been on the run with her family. It hasn’t all been as simple as I thought, and I already thought it was complicated. The years of running have taken a mental and physical toll on everyone. I can’t say too much about it without spoiling, but this portion of the book was very chilling.
Tessa also struggles a lot with trying to protect her families’ secrets and be open and honest with the boy she loves at the same time. At first, I was annoyed with her because of all the risks she was taking. I know she is in love for the first time and trust Tristan with her life, but the more she tells him, the more she is risking her entire families’ lives. Unfortunately, her secrets don’t just involve her, but I also understand her desire to be honest with him.
As this story progresses, it is becoming a real paranormal mystery. After reading the first portion, I thought that the paranormal storyline might suffer and the romance would take priority, but that has not happened at all. The author has found a great balance between both the paranormal and romantic elements, and they both get a chance to shine. I have always enjoyed stories about people with psychic abilities. In fact, I have been searching in vain for a novel like this for a while, and this book is better than what I asked for!
Part two ended with a huge cliff hanger, and an important secret was revealed. I have to give myself a pat on the back because I figured this secret out during the first part of the book, but I cannot wait to read more about it! On to part three!
Because of violence and mild sexual content and violence, I would recommend this book for ages 13 and up.
