Synopsis:

Book Two of the bestselling Lux seriesBeing connected to Daemon Black sucks…Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.Something worse than the Arum has come to town…The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes…I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Review

I really enjoy this series! It’s a fresh take on a very popular storyline in the Young Adult, Supernatural, Romance genre. In the first book, Katy Meets the  mysterious Daemon Black and the attraction is instant. Because of who, or should I say what, Daemon is, he feels like he has to push her away in order to keep her safe. But the relationship between Katy and Daemon differs from what I usually read in that Katy is not willing to overlook Daemon’s crappy altitude just because he has a reason to be fearful for her safety. He decided he wanted to push her away in the first book? Fine, but Katy is not  going to come running just because Daemon FINALLY figured out that he was not making the right choice. Katy has standards, and she is going to make Daemon work his butt off if he wants her now.

I’m still not sure what happened between Daemon and Katy in that field towards the end of the first book , but whatever it was caused  Daemon’s already intense attraction towards Katy to become something that he could no longer pretend to ignore. He didn’t do a very good job of staying away from her the first time around, but now he is 100% set on getting this girl to give in to the connection that they share.

Katy fights him off though because she is not sure whether or not his feelings are sincere or a product of the strange events that took place between them in Obsidian. One of the many things that Make this series a favorite of mine is the fact that Daemon and Katy are not in love. At least they are not in love yet. They are attracted to and intrigued by one another, but love requires more than just wanting to slap a kiss on someone every time they walk into the room, and Katy knows this. She wants something real, and won’t settle for anything less. The relationship between these two takes it’s time, and I can’t express how much I appreciate that! Usually when a book has a romance at the center of it, the relationship can feel rushed and I always get frustrated when that happens. I like a slow build up so I can really invest in the characters and their romance. The romance is present throughout the entire novel, but it’s not rushed. The author gives us plenty of sweet and romantic moments, but the romance is also well-developed over time.

The action in this book is also great. I really believe that even if you are not a fan of romantic books, you would have a great time with this series. It keeps moving the whole way through, and you won’t have time to be bored. When you reach the romantic parts, just hold on for a few pages because something shocking will happen soon! I’m a huge fan of Sci-fi, and aliens are one of my favorite things about the genre. There is just something entertaining about the idea of creature with powers and attributes that seem supernatural to us living on some distant planet.. If you enjoy Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Supernatural books, then this series is for you! And if Romance is the only thing that you really care about when you read, then you will not be disappointed either! This is one of those rare times when a book will really make a wide variety of readers happy and keep them entertained.

Onyx was clean, but because of language, violence, and a couple mildly steamy kissing scenes, I would recommend it for ages 15 and up.
