Has this ever happened to you?

So I got a book in the mail yesterday that I honestly forget I ordered. I vaguely remember being up way too late at night browsing Goodreads and I guess I must have bought this book. I am a little worried about my book spending habits. I used to do this all the time, I would buy like 5 books and then forget about 3 of them. Then when they showed up in my mailbox, it felt like getting a surprise gift. I had stopped doing this, but I had a little slip up, and I have to admit it’s still fun getting a surprise book in the mail. I mean at least the book looks like it might be good.

I’m not sure if this is just mildly strange or if I have a serious problem so I was wondering if this ever happens to anyone else? You guys ever buy a book and then completely forget about it until it ends up in your mailbox a few weeks later?

Oh, and if you were wondering, this is the book I forgot I bought:

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen-year-old Evangeline "Evie" Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they're still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can't do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can't totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it's not always clear who is on which side.

  1. I remember all of the books that I purchase, I look forward to them actually. What surprises me is when I get books that I had no clue was coming. If I win books, I get emails to let me know. I get emails from authors and publishers about books they’re sending me. What I don’t understand is when I get books from publishers who I have never had contact with about updating mailing lists and such. I’m trying to still figure it out because it’s kinda creepy that they have my mailing info without me ever having contact with them. Strange….

    1. That is super creepy! I just get e-book copies of books right now because I don’e want anyone having my address.Maybe you can get a PO box to give to publishers. 🙂

  2. This happens to me all the time. Usually, I’ll go a bookstore with a gift card and load up on books and since I do almost everything via kindle, I’ll forget about my hard copies. Fast forward a month or two and I’m cleaning and I find my bag with fresh uncracked books in them! What a surprise! I’m incredibly absentminded at times so I’m ashamed at how frequently this happens.

  3. Nope, I can’t say this has ever happened to me. Whenever I order books, I’m so excited for them to come so I’ll use Amazon Prime and I’ll stalk the package until it says ‘delivered to door’ at which point I’ll race home and admire the shiny new covers. I just get so excited about new books that I could never forget about them!

  4. I have actually never forgotten about any book I have purchased as I am too eager to forget. I regularly track my order.BUT A WIN IS DIFFERENT But I received my first giveaway win without my knowledge. Imagine how happy and surprised I would have been. When the courier man delivered it to me, I even told him he had the wrong person when he showed me my name on the parcel and thats when I realized that it must have been one of those random giveaways I enter all the win but never expect to win. I felt really happy.

  5. When I lived in the US I belonged to a book club and getting that little pamphlet in the mail was like torture – I wanted everything. I would order so many books that I could never remember what I had ordered till they showed up unless it was a specific book I was eagerly awaiting. I had started the book club when living with my parents and when I moved out they re-did all of the carpets, new kitchen, new furniture for the living room and two bathrooms – my mother said it was the money they were saving from not having to pay for my books.
