The Fae gods—the Aesir—have fallen and the key to their return lies with those who betrayed them.
While the elven city burns, the Drui, an unknown race of Seidr wielders, escape with a child. Kallan, daughter of the Dokkalfar king and elven witch-queen, has no idea that she is the last Drui, or that she holds the secret to the Fae god’s return. But the gods are closing in and if she is to survive the hunt she must align herself with the one man she has sworn to kill: her father’s alleged killer, King Rune of the Ljosalfar.
While battling their prejudices, and each other, across the lands of ancient Scandinavia, Rune and Kallan begin to uncover the truth of Kallan’s identity buried beneath a web of lies and the Shadow that haunts them.

Interview with Angela B. Chrysler

First I would like to thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Thank you so much for interviewing me. I truly appreciate this.

Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming book, Tales of the Drui: Dolor and Shadow?

Dolor and Shadow is book one of the Tales of the Drui series. It introduces a 10th century Scandinavian world where Norse myth and Celtic myth exist alongside each other. It mingles Irish lore with that of Norse. Kallan is an elven witch queen who is hunted by the Fae gods for something she has no idea she possesses. The manhunt for her head lands her in the middle of Ancient Scandinavia and forces her to team up with her enemy, Rune, who she has sworn to kill.

When I checked out your website, I noticed that you already have three books in the Tales of Drui series written. Are there any more books planned for the series or will it be a trilogy?

There are more books to come for the series. At this time, I have six books planned. In addition to the Tales of the Drui, I also have a novella series, which I will start releasing later this year. The first book of the novellas, Bergen: Bane focuses on Bergen’s backstory. Bergen’s story will fill in and expand on Kallan’s world, but is not necessary to follow the main story arc shown in Tales of the Drui.

Can you tell us some things about your main characters?

Tales of the Drui revolves around three main characters.

Kallan, Queen of the Dokkalfar, is a Seidr-wielder (magic-user). She is smart and strong, but stubborn, and her greatest weakness is accepting her own weaknesses. As a result, she has dedicated her life to a goal she refuses to accept as impossible. When she is angry, she tends to listen to no one. Kallan has two nemeses: two brothers, Rune and Bergen Tryggveson.

Rune is king of the Ljosalfar. He has dedicated his life to destroying the shadow that destroyed his family. When he recognizes the shadow inside of Kallan and sees that it is killing her, he directs his efforts to helping Kallan rid of it, despite her determination to kill him.

Bergen…*sigh* Bergen is the center of the series. He actually doesn’t make much of a presence in book one, but he really is as much the heart of Drui as Kallan. If I had to describe Bergen, I would say he is pompous, sexy, suave, and he knows it. Bergen has more secrets and ghosts haunting him than he has ego, which is saying something.

How long have you been writing this book/series?

I began Tales of the Drui in 2007. This November will mark my eighth year working on this series.

So far, what has been the most challenging thing about the writing and publishing process?

Wow! The hardest part…Mastering the endurance. Writing epic fantasy is all about endurance. Staying with the story, fueling the passion long enough to finish it and keep the series going before you throw your hands in the air and declare you’re mentally too fried to continue. I had to learn to hold out and to keep plucking away at it regardless of how many years passed by. Part of that was due to the webbing I kept adding. At one point, I literally had to tell myself stop. No more webbing. Just finish the book.

So far, what has been the most rewarding thing about the writing and publishing process?

The people! Oh! So many wonderful people! I have met such beautiful personalities and wonderful writers through this. Some have truly left their mark on me while others…I have come to love very deeply. This profession is filled with a surplus of just beautiful people who have a surplus of love and support.

What are some things that you enjoy doing in your free time?

I am the biggest nerd…Star Trek, anime, RPG’s, Skyrim, D&D…I also garden, cross-stitch, dance, and sing. Mostly, I indulge in story anywhere I can get it. Books, anime, movies…I love story.

Do you have any hidden or not so hidden talents you can tell us about?

I write poetry, which is posted on my website here Also, I compose ballads in the neo-Renaissance style.

Honestly, I wouldn’t call what I do a talent, so much as it is…an undertaking. I can’t say much about it now, but my next book release, “Broken,” unveils a very personal and dark topic for me that I will be covering over the next few months on my website. This undertaking takes up most of my time and exhausts the majority of my talents. It requires every ounce of skill or talent that I have to persevere.

Is there a TV show, movie franchise, or book series that you are really excited about right now?

You mean aside from The Walking Dead? Well, between now and October, I would have to say One Piece and Naruto in the anime department. I love the stories written by Karen Marie Moning and have her most recent release to read. I am a huge Avenger fan. I follow the movies very closely (Iron Man is better than Batman). And in October, after indulging on Fear The Walking Dead, I’ll be back to The Walking Dead. Did I mention I love The Walking Dead?

What is one thing or who is one person that always makes you laugh?

Luffy! Monkey D. Luffy is the main character in the anime, One Piece. He always makes me laugh. Always.

I like to do a game at the end of an interview so my readers can get to know you better. I will start the sentence, and you finish it however you like!
The coolest thing about me is…my insatiable love for all things nerdy. I am a lady who loves Spock, prefers Picard over Kirk, adores war movies, and loves following up a four hour game of D&D with a good anime while drinking Guinness. I do all this while waiting for the zombie apocalypse to start.
One day I will learn how to…run, operate, and fix my computer problems without having to call anyone for help.
The one food I can never resist is…Guinness! Wait, you said food…Cookies! Doritos! I am such a sucker for a bag of Doritos.
I never leave the house without…my iPod, a pen, and blank paper. Sometimes, I remember my car keys.
The world would be a better place if…everyone learned to take and give compliments and smiles as easily as they gave insults and frowns.

Author Biography

About Angela B. Chrysler

Angela B. Chrysler is a writer, logician, and professional nerd who studies theology, historical linguistics, music composition, and medieval European history in New York without a sense of humor or the ability to comprehend sarcasm.

In 2009, after completing two courses from Long Ridge Writer’s Group, her articles appeared in Kritter Kronickles Pet Magazine, and she began work on Dolor and Shadow: a dark, mythological fantasy that depicts the Viking era from the elves’ point of view. She is active on most social media platforms and can usually be found tweeting on Twitter at @abchryslerabc.

While writing, Ms. Chrysler survives on cats, coffee, Guinness, and the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. When she is not writing, she embraces all things nerdy, and reads everything she can get her hands on no matter the genre. Occasionally, she finds time to garden, mother her three children, and debate with her life-long friend.
